Parishes Together Day, June 2004
A letter from Charles McCreery, MRCPI FACC, Consultant Cardiologist
Dear Canon Moynan,
My apologies for the delay in contacting you.
I would like to thank you and your parishioners for their enormous generosity in raising so such money at the
barbeque.
You will be pleased to know that we did go ahead and buy two ECG machines with the funds you raised. You will
also be pleased to know that your fund raising started a ball rolling. The hospital matched the money with
additional ECG machines. The Cardiovascular Strategy Group of the Eastern Coast Area Health Board has also
now matched money with a new stress testing machine for the department.
Again I would like to thank you and your parishioners for their generosity.
Many thanks. Yours sincerely Charles McCreery
The Church of Ireland's Bishop's Appeal Fund
We are grateful to all who contributed to Bishops Appeal both at Christmas as usual - ¨¤2,220 and for the Tsunami
Appeal - ¨ ¤4,400 to date. The Church of Ireland s Bishops Appeal Fund will continue to support the people of
Asia even as they try to rebuild their livelihoods in the long term. The Bishops' Appeal channels most of its funds
through the Christian Aid Organisation. In this way costs are kept to an absolute minimum and the money goes
directly to accountable local sources of need - women's co-operatives, education and health projects, structural
developments and suchlike all of which are underpinned through prayer and the transforming love of God. The
Parish will continue to channel funds for the disaster relief through Bishops' Appeal, but such gifts need to be
clearly marked.

Church Cleaning and Coffee Rota
In 2004 Olive Pierce kindly organised this rota, ringing parishioners to ask for their assistance in this important
work. It is a tough job phoning people, especially as many are not in to receive calls or the phone lines can be
engaged by internet use. A list has been placed on the Church Notice Board and Olive should be obliged if you
would offer your services by putting your name alongside a Sunday. It is not an onerous task. If enough people
offer, and 2 families take on a Sunday, it only commits once a year. Please support Olive when she rings you.
The Church Grounds and Car Parking
1). In recent years school parents have used the church driveways to bring children to and from the school. Parents
so doing are required to drive slowly and carefully so that accidents are avoided and wear and tear to the
driveways is kept to a minimum.
2). Parishioners and all users are reminded that the "boxed off" area in front of the church cottage is reserved for the
use of the occupier; and - only people with disability should park in the two spaces clearly marked as such in the
car park.
Choosing the Hymns
Terry Lilburn placed a box, a big box, at the rear of the church for you to let us know your favourite hymns or your
hymn suggestions for church services. These are very helpful to the Rector in choosing hymns and he tries to slot
in suggested hymns when they are appropriate to the theme. Terry also put little pieces of blank paper in pews
for your use. Two helpful notes were received before Christmas. Do please use this facility.
Annual School & Parish Family Fun Day & Fair
This will take place in the church grounds on Saturday 14th May 2005. This is an important social and fundraising
event for both school and parish. We are grateful to parishioners, leaders of organisations and school parents
who kindly head up and man stalls. The support of every family and individual in the school and parish is needed
both for the organisation of the event and on the day. Please do set it aside in your diaries. An initial meeting
was held on 26th January 2005 and the following committee was elected to lead our efforts:
- Chairperson - Andi Bailey, phone 01 295 7448;

Family and All Age Worship
The family service on Sunday 6th February will be updated a little. Steven Baggs CA, musicians and others will
enliven the service, make some changes in style of hymns and songs, produce a short drama, and seek to be
inclusive of all ages. Even with these changes a familiar structure will be maintained. We will also present the
liturgy in both powerpoint and leaflet form. Come, taste and see!
Easter Vestry Meeting
The annual Easter Vestry Meeting will take place in the Parish Hall on Tuesday 15th March at 8.00 p.m. This is the
AGM of the parish when the accounts are adopted and the Select Vestry is elected and nominated for the coming
year. As usual there will also be an opportunity for comment and discussion. All parishioners are warmly invited to
attend and take part. However, only registered vestry persons are elegible to vote or to be nominated or elected
members of Select Vestry.
Extension at Kilternan Church of Ireland National School
We are delighted to have received a summons to attend the Department of Education and Science in Tullamore on
1st February 2005 for a briefing on progress of the proposed extension to go to tender and construction within the
next 12-15 months. Meetings with the design team before and after Christmas to fine tune the plans have been
fruitful, giving the school the advantage of the Department's most up-to-date specifications.
The extension as designed will comprise four extra mainstream classrooms. This will mean that each class will
have its own classroom and teacher - the optimum from a teaching perspective. In addition a resource and library,
special tuition, multi-purpose room will be provided, and the general purpose room will be doubled in size and
some extra storage provided. A contract of this size, with work at each end of the school and at the rear, will
require us to decamp from the building to temporary accommodation to be provided at the front of the school for
the duration of the work. Access to the school will be through the church grounds, and the church grounds will
also be used for play areas. Access to the Parochial Hall will also be available as heretofore. How fortunate we
are to have these parish facilities so available to the school. All in all this is a very positive and welcome
development for the school which in the long term will far outweigh the inevitable temporary inconvenience of all
this work and upheaval. We ask parents, children, teachers and other staff to bear with one another through it
all. Certainly, as we seek to attain developing schools status, and be able to employ a sixth mainstream teacher in
September 2005, rather than have to wait until September 2006, we do not want to lose children from the school,
or, for those booked in to go elsewhere. We will keep all parties informed of developments as we know of them.
