Thank you
A big thank-you to everybody who is involved in Klips
production. Behind the scenes there is quite a network
that involves writers and contributors, foreign
correspondents, researchers and editors, proof-reader/s
and distributors. Without the input of all, Klips
wouldn't arrive through your letterbox. Articles,
letters and other contributions are always welcome; it
is your opportunity to express your views on anything
you consider to be relevant to parish life. Any member
of the editorial committee will be happy to receive
same.
Would contributors to
Klips please note the following:
- A writer should not annoy half of his readers by
using gender-specific language.
- Always finish what you star Avoid use of
ampersands & abbreviations etc.
- Always avoid annoying alliteration.
- Avoid cliché's like the plague they're so
old hat.
- Analogies in writing are like feathers on a
snake. Be more-or-less specific.
- Consilt the dictionery friquently to avoid
mispeling.
- Hopefully, you will use words correctly,
irregardless of how others use them.
- If you reread and reread your work and reread it
again you will weed out the weeds of repetition.
- Do, not use, unnecessary, commas,
- Don't indulge in sesquipedalian lexicological
constructions.
Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity:
This year's service was held in Kilternan Parish
Church and was well attended by our brothers and
sisters in Christ from Sandyford Parish. Rev. Ken
Thompson, Methodist Minister in Sutton and chairperson
of the Friends of Sabeel Ireland spoke. We thank Ken
for his thought provoking address. Following the
service refreshments were served in the Parish
Hall.
Three Strands
Ministry
Three Strands Ministry continued its end of month
evening service in Kilternan on Sunday 30th January.
The theme was "Jesus, the light of the world". On the
27th February the service was in Rathmichael where we
focussed on "what it is to have faith and to believe in
God". Although "different" these services have
attracted a substantial number of worshippers and a
very talented and committed group of musicians and
singers. We thank Stephen for his commitment to this
alternative style of worship.
Triplets at the rectory
- no kidding!
A report by our
agricultural correspondent
David and Isabel, together with their nanny are
pleased to announce the safe arrival of John, Paul and
Carole. There was joy in the morning on Friday 8th
April, when the Moynan menagerie of dogs, birds, goats
and assorted wildlife was increased by the arrival of a
further three kids. After a somewhat anxious week of
waiting by the foster farmers/parents, two boys and a
girl were born in the early hours of the morning. The
youngsters, provisionally named, are said to be the
image of their father, but have their mother's eyes.
They will remain under the watchful eye of their mother
and minders for about 3 months when they will be
donated to Bothar. In the meantime mother and kids are
reported to be doing well.

Family Fun Day & Fair - A Parish &
School Undertaking
Much work has gone into organising and preparing
for the Family Fun Day and Fair on Saturday 14th
May. An enthusiastic committee has created and
devised new activities, and revamped some of the
older ones, and a great day is expected.
Following the féte, on the Saturday night there
will be a Marquee Dance from 8.30 p.m. onwards.
The Family Fun Day and Fair is an important
opportunity for parishioners, school parents and
friends to meet and work alongside one another.
It is also a crucial fundraiser for both School
and Parish. To this end it is hoped that everyone
connected with School and Parish will be involved
in some way. See you there!
Three Strands Ministry
Elsewhere in this issue of Klips Steven Baggs
writes about Three Strands Ministry. Steven's
first year in the three parishes has brought
about innovative ideas to bring young people into
contact with the Good News of Jesus Christ; it
has offered alternative styles of worship held
between the parish churches normally on the last
Sunday of the month at 7.00 p.m. Here in
Kilternan we have taken the opportunity at our
family services on the first Sunday of the month
to use power-point production and to involve a
small music group. We hope this will make family
services more accessible to all ages.
Notable Dates for Three Strands Ministry:
Alternative services at 7.00 p.m. - Rathmichael
on Sunday 22nd May; Kilternan on Sunday 26th
June. Youth Camps for young people of secondary
school ages will be run in the week commencing
Monday 27th June at Kilternan. Book early by
phoning Steven at 01 295 0934.
Scripture Union Children's Holiday Club will run
for the week commencing 4th July - again to book
phone Steven.
Parish Buildings
The Parish has received “permission in
principle” from the Diocesan Councils and
the Representative Church Body for the sale of
our present rectory and to apply the proceeds
towards the cost of a new rectory and a new
parish/community complex. The Select Vestry, with
the help of the Building Development Committee,
continues to work towards the drawing up of plans
for a new rectory and a parish/community complex.
Such a venture is a leap in faith, but one which
the Select Vestry feels is necessary in order to
engage with parishioners and the wider community.
Plan drawings will be on view at the Family Fun
Day and Fair and parishioners are invited to
offer their comments/suggestions to the Honorary
Secretary, Dr Ian Elliott, 01 295 5619;
or the Rector, 01 295 5603. A parish
meeting will be held in the Parochial Hall on
Tuesday 7th June at 8.00 p.m. to which all
interested parties are invited. Following the
meeting it is hoped to submit plans, etc. for
approval by Diocesan Glebes and Finance
Committee, 21st June, Diocesan Councils, 23rd
June, and at the Representative Church Body on
7th September.
Other Good News
To coincide with the start of the mains sewer
scheme for Kilternan Cowper Care Centre Limited
will commence its building programme of nursing
home and sheltered housing in June/July. This
long awaited project will be of great benefit to
the Parish and wider community.
Final approval for Kilternan Church of Ireland
National School to go to planning and tender is
also imminent. For the past three years we have
had to use the general purpose room as a
classroom, and in September 2006 we will require
two classrooms. The Department, recognising the
growth of this area, has sanctioned four
additional classrooms with ancillary
teaching/resource/library rooms and an extension
to the general purpose room. A billed programme
for the extension of ten to twelve months means
we need to be on site in September 2005 to be
ready for September 2006. During building access
to the School will be from the Church grounds -
how fortunate we are to be able to facilitate one
another in this manner. It should be noted that
while the Parish gave the land for the nursing
home and sheltered housing, this is a Diocesan
project and will not involve the Parish
financially. School too will receive the bulk of
its finance from the Department of Education
& Science, however, some local contribution
will be called for. We are delighted that to-date
€75,000 has been contributed by school
parents and others.
Thank you for this .
We pray for a vision of God's will for his
Church in this Parish and area. We give thanks
for all that has been, and we say "yes" to all
that shall be in his name.
Oh! the Family Fun Day & Fair, see you there
on the 14th of May, 12 noon to 4.00 p.m.

Annual Easter Vestry Meeting
This year's Annual Vestry Meeting took place in
the Parochial Hall on Tuesday 15th March. In view
of the plethora of elections which had to take
place speeches were kept to a minimum. The
Rector, however, thanked the outgoing Select
Vestry, and parishioners in general for their
involvement and support in the Parish and in

involved in the various activities and events
offered. The Rector focussed on two areas: the
