PARISH REGISTERHoly BaptismMothering Sunday, 30th March, 2003. Sophie Niamh, daughter of Clive and Niamh Moutray. Christian Burial Friday, 7th March, 2003: Gladys Gill. Following a funeral and thanksgiving service in the parish church Gladys was laid to rest in the adjoining graveyard. She and her late sister Hilda were one-time parishioners in Kilternan. Following Hilda's death in 1989 Gladys resided in Northbrook Nursing Home, Northbrook Road, Dublin 6, where she passed away peacefully on Friday, 28th February. We offer our sympathy and prayers to her nephew Michael, and her nieces Karin and Frances. Condolences: We remember with love and sympathy Howard Knott and his family on the death of his father Henry Boardman Knott. At his father's funeral Howard read the following poem which his father had at his bedside. It is a beautiful statement of his Christian faith. We thank Howard for sharing it with us: THE GARDENER'S PRAYER I have worked in the fertile earth and planted a garden; so I know what faith is. I have listened to the birds carolling in the morning and at dusk; so I know what music is. I have seen the morning without clouds after showers; so I know what beauty is. I have seen the miracle of spring, the fruition of summer and the beauty of autumn, followed by the repose of winter; so I know what life is. And because I have perceived all of these things; I know what God is. We also think of Joy Guard and her family on the sudden death of her husband Stephen. A Month's Mind: In the Roman Catholic Church a helpful practice is what is called "a month's mind" - one month after a death or a funeral the family and friends of the deceased come together for a Mass. This coming together, this time of renewed support for one another and this communion with the saints and with God is a valuable practive, giving an opportunity to remember again those we have known and lost a while. A Month's Mind for Sr Carmel, Ursuline, was held in St Mary's Church, Sandyford, on Wednesday, 12th March, in which the ministry of this Christian lady was remembered with thanksgiving before God. As a child Sr Carmel attended the Ursuline Convent in Waterford. Later she committed her whole teaching career to that school. On her retirement she came to Sandyford Parish - the first of the Ursuline Sisters, paving the way for what is now an established and valued ministry in the community. May she rest in peace. We pray for all who are bereaved, that "casting all our cares on you, O Lord, may we know the consolation of your love; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen" |

CONFIRMATION 2003: Confirmation preparation has run Sunday by Sunday since the early New Year. The young people and their parents attending have enjoyed the short sessions following church. They have looked at what it is to believe and to belong - to believe in God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit; and to belong to him and his Church. On Sunday, 6th April, the confirmation group spoke of their story as young people growing up in their families and society, and as part of God's family. Their Christian story is about their part in God's story and their relationship with him. The Jews, in the context of a Passover meal, recite the Shema which is based on Deuteronomy 26:1-11 - God's saving deliverance of his people Israel. We as Christians acknowledge God's hand in all things from the beginning, but supremely in Jesus Christ, in his birth, death, resurrection and his giving of the Holy Spirit, we recognise God's saving love drawing the world to himself and giving light and life eternal to those who believe in him and who follow his way of love. We pray for these young people to be confirmed in Rathmichael Parish Church on Sunday, 27th April, at 3 p.m. - Ailbhe, Dominique, Hannah, Jane and Jemma and their families. |
PARISH GIFT DAY PENTECOST, 8th JUNE 2003 Having refurbished the Church Cottage at a cost of €71K, the parish bank account is currently in deficit in the amount of €16K. In order to rectify this situation the Select Vestry has asked that a Parish Gift Day be held on 8th June - Pentecost - when we celebrate God's gift of his Spirit to us and to his Church. We hope this is appropriate and that parishioners will respond generously either - by placing their gift on the alms plate in church; or - by posting it to the Hon. Treasurer, Ms Jennifer Lynam, 12 Glencairn Chase, The Gallops, Leopardstown, Dublin 18, In considering your gift please remember the very beneficial tax implications for the parish - of individuals giving €250 or more in a tax year. To this end it is important that the Hon. Treasurer can identify the gift. He said: Freely, freely you have received, freely, freely give; Go in my name and because you believe, others will know that I live (ICP:28) |
